Aftermath

by Neil
(England)

Military are shelling the town.

Military are shelling the town.

Military are shelling the town. Streets are deserted. Military are everywhere. Down by the river. Nobody about.

Aftermath
an extract of a rough draft story I am writing.

I think I should have seen the signs when the local medical centre was offering "urgent free jabs". I was in for a check-up and thought I would just have one for the hell of it.

The news channels were rife with the spread of some sort of virus which started in Eastern Europe and then spread across the continent. Before you know it the government were making curfews, you couldn't move in the town for military vehicles and checkpoints.

The streets are deserted, people have either left, staying indoors or are dead.

I mean, come on. How serious could this be?

Well I'm here to tell you. Incredibly serious. There are a few other bloggers out there who I kept in touch with, but they are coming online less frequently now. Now do not get disturbed or hysterical, if your reading this from the safety of some place in the world where the infection has not spread. It is going to sound very far fetched, even ridiculous but I am witness to the fact that infected people are walking the streets of my town and they are eating people.

Yes...yes...I know what your thinking "zombies" or "you've been watching too many Hollywood movies my friend".

It's nine o'clock at night. I am looking out of a window on the fourth floor of an office block and the town is burning. The military have been bombarding the south side of town ever since it became in their words "out of control".

I had nipped out for some supplies, there is no running water and I had to get some bottles. The local shop is the normal place for me, but that was massively looted days ago, so I had to go a bit further down the road to the supermarket. It got pretty scary on the way back home, a few groups of infected wandering around, so I decided to hole up in this office block until morning. I've managed to get enough supplies to last me for the week.

I don't know what this infection is or how it started. I just know that England is now quarantined, nothing is coming in or out. I have heard there are evacuation centres, but I only got this information from one of the blogging sites, so I am not sure if this is true or not. And anyway, I don't know where these evacuation centres are.

If your out there. If your experiencing the same thing. My thoughts are with you.

I'll try and blog again soon.....
