Aftermath

The office I was hiding in for the night.
Aftermath - Part 2Daylight came pretty quick. I had a very uncomfortable and restless night. The floor was hard and with the windows blown out it was very cold. Add that to the fact the military shelled the south side of town continuously through the night and you can gather what sort of night I had.
Tuna for breakfast. Luckily I had picked up a tin that had a ring-pull, I drank the salty, brine liquid as I did not want to waste my water supplies.
I made my way down the stairs and out into a new day. A new day! Please what is there to celebrate. I have a careful look around as I don't want to be jumped by one of the infected, that's the last thing I need.
I am very stupid. I should have got the hell out of here when I saw people packing up and moving. I had a duty though, but that's not important right now.
Looking up I gaze at what was my lodging for the night and then trudge off down the deserted street. It was about a half an hour walk to my home, once out of the town centre I could cross the open fields and then reach the leafy suburb where I once enjoyed living.
I reached the fields with apparent ease, I wasn't blown up by the military and I did not run into any of the infected, so there was a bonus.
As I crossed the field I could see the main road which ran from the town down to the dual carriageway, it was littered with abandoned cars, some of them smoking. I could see figures stumbling about. Fortunately I was far enough away so as not to be seen. I could tell from the way the figures moved that they were not 'friendly' and I had no intention of getting closer to investigate.
Reaching the wooden fence that surrounded the field I was about to clamber over when I saw three figures from my right moving slowly down the narrow country road. I crouch down behind a bush and as they go by I see that they are infected. One of them stops and sniffs the air, can they smell?
It took the three lifeless figures a few mintues to stumble on by and when I believed it was safe I moved out from the undergrowth and headed up the street opposite which took me to home.
I could not help but notice the ragged, filthy look of the infected. And jesus did they stink. Even from a distance away I could smell them. Blood oozing from their eyes, matted hair and clothes which hung from their skeletal bodies. Disgusting.
I'm hoping to check out some other blogs later to see what the situation is everywhere else. If you're barricaded in somewhere and you feel all alone, then I am in the same boat as you.
Good luck...Keep safe...I will try and blog soon...
