I like the ideas you have there. There is one thing that most people think about zombies from movies is that that they would always be able to see. The only ones that would actually be able to see a campfire is the ones that were brought back to life by some type of mystical method, like voodoo. They could also function without eyes by method of the spell that resurrected them not needing eyes to find their prey.
Chemical undead would not be able to see because the eyes would be dead tissue and would not function. These undead would hunt by sound, also they would not be able to smell since they don't breathe or taste since their tongue is dead tissue too.
Most movies writers don't think of these things and like to keep pumping out the same old stuff that people thought would just be cool to put in a movie.
