Sanity's Requiem
While often understated, self-entertainment can sometimes be as crucial as food, water, or weapons. Finding time to relax can sometimes be difficult to say the least, but a person under stress for an extended period free of respite will be more fatigued, irritable, and he/she might lash out at other survivors, or in worse cases, may snap completely and be almost as, if not more, dangerous than any zombie. Keeping or finding ways to unwind, even for a few minutes each day, can be extremely beneficial.
This does not need to be electronic, as a book or a deck of cards 1) does not require batteries, and 2) is difficult to detect, as they make very little noise. They also tend to be much lighter and easy to carry around. However, a small, handheld music player can be used to drown out the sound of moaning or scratching, allowing for a more restful sleep, and a simple Gameboy Advance, especially if run on battery power, can also provide entertainment and drone out the zombie noises, as well as being a good trade item in an emergency. However, always keep a backup. A pair of headphones is better than a set of earbuds, as they do not fall out as easily, nor are they right next to your eardrums, making it less likely to damage your hearing.
