Smart Melee Weapons

by Karlos
(Ohio)

We live in a modern world where everthing is mass produced sacryficing quality over quantity. That is why the blades in my home are divided in 3 groups;ornamental, practical and functional. Ornamental blades are the blades that look cool and go well with the decoration of certain parts of my home, those are practically useless blades they have no real use because they will probably break after a few uses. Functional blades are those that are of good quality and can be used in real combat, this blades are different to the others for they are what it is called "full tang" which means the are made to be used, I keep those in the house close at hand cus you never know when they can be handy.Practical weapons are those weapons who are not only battle ready but also can be used as tools;the best example is the machete and the axe. the problem of going with a weapon like the sword or the katana is that they are too bulky and not very maneuverable in closed quarters,a hatchet will go much farther than any sword just like a machete will go the distance. Those 2 weapons are tools designed with the weight all along the blade due to the fact that they are not slashing weapons they are hacking weapons. Against swombies you dont need to slash, they are dead and prob dont feel pain so slashing weapons are not 100% usefull against them,in order to destroy the brain u need to crack open the skull with ease and for that slashing will take longer than hacking. Here's a lil trick i use to know if a blade is good or not. "If its cool and flashy is ornamental" I few years ago I decided to test 3 of my blades one of each group, with a piece of lumber. The ornamental one broke the handle after only a few docen hits doing very lil damage to the piece of wood. The functional one did not break and did quite damage, the practical one a machete i tested (I still have) its of good quality it hacked farther into the surface of the wood faster than the functional katana. Also remeber to keep our blades sharp, they sell a low cost sharpner that dont take much effort and its easy to use,is not as efective as a "wet stone" but it gets the job done
