The beginning of the end

by Bradley A. Peraino
(Clio, MI, USA)

My Zombie Short Story, "The beginning of the end" is located at http://perainopoetryss.blogspot.com. I will leave the prologue below, however you will have to visit my blog to read the rest. I hope you enjoy it!

Prologue

Lyn was jolted to her feet by the sound of a late night telephone. It rang several times before the caller hung up. She looked at the clock, her eyes trying hard to focus; it was late. She thought to herself, “Someone better be dead or…” The phone blared again, startling her back into reality. Quickly, she answered with a snotty, “Hello!” It was Adam. “Adam, why are you… no I didn’t see the news. What? That’s not funny! Do you know what time it is? Are you drunk?” Lyn hurried to the television to prove that Adam was pulling her chain. The room fell quiet. Bragg, NC. “What’s their situation?” “Not good, they’ve been overrun and the rioters are headed this way. Their casualties are almost 100%.” Adam wasn’t sure of what to do next. He never thought the words “foreign or domestic” would ever actually be “domestic”. The thought of killing his fellow citizens sickened him. Though, those people had gone mad and there were still innocent civilians to protect. “God, help us!”

“Okay, bring me the radio.” He hadn’t been so nervous to say two little words since his wedding day. “Broken Arrow!” “Broken Arrow, Sgt.?” “Yeah, basically it’s the code word for all Hell is breaking loose.” In all actuality, it’s the term used by the military when the situation requires an all service response. “I say again, Broken Arrow!” There was no response…
