Hater David Moody (2006)
Description: One day you're heading to work, playing with the kids, kissing your wife goodnight, the next day you're a killer. It occurs without warning—sudden, vicious, and lethal attacks. Why are people attacking their friends, their family, even complete strangers? Is it a virus, is it a terrorist attack, or is it something more primal? An overwhelming terror has gripped the country and there’s no one to trust—not even yourself. In the tradition of H. G. Wells, Anthony Burgess, and Richard Matheson, Hater is one man’s story of his place in a world gone mad— a world infected with fear, violence, and HATE.
History Is Dead: A Zombie Anthology Scott A. Johnson (2007)

They emerge from foggy cemeteries, frozen barrows, loamy bogs, cursed mines, and gore-spattered operating rooms to prey on the living. But these zombies don't just eat people. They help painters and writers save their faltering careers. They unwittingly push humankind on the quest for fire. They topple evil capitalists and their corporate empires. They fight crime. They fall in love. Join us on a journey into our zombie-filled past... Neither history nor the living dead have ever been this exciting!

I, Zombie Curt Selby (1982)
Description: I, Zombie came well before the more recent spate of Zombie titles out there and I believe it was written just a few years after Dawn of the Dead hit the scene in 1979. Although many might consider anything to do with Zombies these days originating back to Romero, this work certainly is not necessarily a tale of horror or even of the zombies we have all come to know and love.
I'll Take My Stand Lawrence Barker (2003)
Description: The Civil War has ended, at least for most people. Others are visited by the animated corpses of soldiers killed in the war, haunted by demons, or selling their souls for political power. Old-Horny foot, a demon of no-small-influence has unleashed Hell on earth and is making deals that will raise the south to power again. Only one man can stop him, an ex-confederate soldier, and his mule Sinner Man, who used to be a demon himself. Armed with a pouch of tobacco and a fiddle that can free the souls of the damned, Riles' on his way to send Old-Horny foot back to Hell.
Infected Scott Sigler (2008)
Description: Starred Review. In Sigler's riveting horror thriller, alien seeds from outer space infect a number of unlucky humans, who develop some unusual symptoms—itchy, blue triangular growths on their skin—that eventually result in the carriers becoming screaming, homicidal maniacs. CIA agent Dew Phillips must find out why these formerly docile citizens are running amok, aided by Margaret Montoya, a Centers for Disease Control epidemiologist, who reported the first of the strange cases. One of the infected, former football player Perry Dawsey, doesn't take any crap from anybody, not even the aliens residing in his body. Sigler (Ancestor) leads the reader from one startling detail to the next—the creatures learn to speak (feed us we hungry); they grow little black eyes—until even hardened genre fans will find themselves whimpering at each new revelation. This terrifying page-turner could be the author's breakout book, fueled by an extensive online podcast campaign. 5-city author tour. Legion of the Dead Hugh B. Cave (1979)
Description: This is as much a political novel about the attempt to overthrow the dictatorship of a Caribbean country as it is a novel about zombies and voodoo. An American writer visiting the country of San Marlo becomes caught up in a revolutionary movement to overthrown the repressive government, which carries out killings and kidnappings with the help of a zombie army. While it is a decent read, there really aren't enough details about politics or voodoo to make this novel special. Recommended for those who don't like their horror novels with gallons of gore.

Monster Island David Wellington (2006)
Description: This is a zombie novel--a fantastic zombie novel. Most of the world has fallen to the undead, with pockets of survivors clinging to a precarious existence. At the behest of the leader of the Free Women's Republic of Somaliland, a shipload of those makes the ludicrous trip from Africa to New York in a desperate quest for medicine. New York is a wasteland, and everything depends on a small, incredibly dedicated band of teenage girls, armed to the teeth, and native guide Dekalb, formerly a UN arms inspector. Also, in NYC there is Gary, a zombie who, completely unexpectedly, retains live human mental faculties. The questers get ringside seats for some of the apocalypse's finest moments, and no matter how prepared they thought they were, something worse awaits in the depths of New York. When zombies have already overrun everything, that's saying something. There are many layers to this zombie apocalypse, and this book just gets things rolling. Stay tuned. In California, he discovers a woman trapped in a hospital overrun with violent madmen. She may hold the secret to the Epidemic but she has lost everything — even her name. David Wellington's first novel, Monster Island, explored a world overcome by horror and the few people strong enough to survive. Now he takes us back in time to where it all began — to the day the dead began to rise.
Monster Planet David Wellington (2007)
Description: As Wellington's horrifyingly entertaining zombie-apocalypse trilogy wraps up, the shambling masses have prevailed for 12 years. An army too coordinated to consist of ordinary undead attacks Ayaan's Egypt-based group of the living out of nowhere, and Ayaan falls to the lich commander the Tzarevich. A ghost who taught Sarah how to see the auras of the undead tells her Ayaan is still alive, and she sets out with the pilot Osman and some friendly mummies, who want to rescue those of their number the Tzarevich has captured, to rescue Ayaan or, if necessary, to "sanitize" her so she doesn't return as a zombie. The rescuers follow the Tzarevich's forces to New York and, eventually, the Source, where everyone has plans. The Tzarevich wants to control the Source to rebuild as he sees fit. Mad Welsh sorcerer Mael Mag Och wants to destroy the world. Sarah has to answer a very important question to keep either from having his way. Wellington handles the zombie matter with just the right balancing of tension and humor. Schroeder, Regina
Moonwalker Rick Hautala (1989)
Description: In the potato fields of Dyer, Maine, lumbering, expressionless figures toil in the hot sun. They are relentless in the pursuit of their task, working without pause. As though mindless, they never slow, never stop...and never breathe. The potatoes must be picked. The small-town people of Dyer, happy with the way things are, never question the existence of the tireless workforce. As a visitor to Dyer, the freakish events that plague the town are impossible to ignore...and he begins asking questions. Harmon and four others soon come face to face with a gruesome, unstoppable evil sent to consume them all. For the dead are living...and the harvest has begun.

Nailed by the Heart Simon Clark (2000)
Description: Ultimate Horror ?It goes without saying that the mother loves her child,? said Reed. ?Mother Nature programmed the female of the species that way. But fathers . . . they can be different. Oh, they would say they love their children. But some can be quite indifferent. They?d rather spend their time with their friends, drinking beer, playing squash. But I believe you do love your son very much, Mr. Stainforth. You spend time with him, talk to him?not down to him, you treat him as someone very important in your life. Probably far more important than you yourself realize. I see you at Christmas, spending all morning playing on the living-room carpet, putting together toys, laughing and joking together. I truly believe you do that, Mr. Stainforth. Ah, now you?re wondering why I wanted to establish that belief, and why I am standing here above the North Sea, holding your beloved son?s arm. The reason is this, Mr. Stainforth. Because I am going to kill your son. And you are going to watch me kill him.? The power of words. I am going to kill your son . . .
Naming of Parts Tim Lebbon (2000)
Description: Finally, Lebbon's zombies are pervasive; everything in nature, from the grass to squirrels to humans is alive in appearance, but already dead inside. There is a sense of winding down, of inertia, about Lebbon's creations. While they are menacing and dangerous in their own right, there is at least the possibility for Jack and his family to carry on because the zombies seem to lose their edge with every passing minute.
Necropolis Tim Waggoner (2004)
Description: In Waggoner's genre-bending blend of mystery, horror, and dark fantasy, all the bogeymen have moved to the dimensional boondocks and set up their own little city, Necropolis. Along with vampires, ghouls, and demons, Necropolis is home to Matthew Adrion, a zombie private eye who must determine what is going wrong with the city before he literally falls apart. The novel is written in traditional hard-boiled style, complete with first-person narrations and wisecracks aplenty, but the setting may be the strangest environment in which a PI ever had to work. Evil forces are at work to wreck the uneasy balance of power shared among the Lords of Necropolis. To make it worse, Adrion, running out of magical restorative spells to hold himself together, must resort to stuffing the bits and pieces of himself that fall off into his pockets. It's hard to say if this singular novel, which boasts a wicked sense of humor to round off the horror, should be eligible for an Edgar Award or a Bram Stoker or both. Night of the Living Dead John A. Russo (1997)
Description: Out of the night they come. Filling the air with chilling howls, the dead are rising from their graves, bent on feeding on the flesh and blood of the living. They seek out human life. And these monstrous corpses will let nothing stand in their way as they hunt down the living to satisfy their own evil desires.
O
One Rainy Night Richard Laymon (2000)
Description: If you are easily grossed out, this one isn't for you. Laymon takes readers on a campy ride through one fatal night in Bixby. A horrible racially-motivated murder leads to voodoo revenge plot. Hmmmm.... ONE RAINY NIGHT depicts graphic violence and sex underscoring the dark side that supposedly lurks beneath us all. Once the mysterious thick black rain starts to fall, townsfolk begin to run amuck. This is an easy read; I finished it in one sitting. You won't find any award-winning dialogue, characters or plot. Many things go unanswered here: what about the suffering of the murdered boy's family? how do a couple of people quickly figure out the rain's secret and accept it without question?
P
Pet Sematary Stephen King (2001)
Description: Renowned for its superior productions, BBC radio may have outdone itself by adapting Stephen King's Pet Sematary to audio. A clamorous cacophony of talking, whining, whistling, and howling, Pet Sematary is a quick, entertaining earful for those who don't have other auditory distractions to contend with, such as a car full of talking whining, whistling, howling children. However, the melodramatic prose marries well with the acting; such is the case when one reader--whose voice bears an uncanny resemblance to Kramer's from Seinfeld--tells another about the effects of the Pet Sematary: "Heroin makes junkies feel good when they put it in their arms, but all the time it's poisoning their mind and body--this place can be like that and don't you ever forget it!"

Resurrection Dreams Richard Laymon (2005)
Description: "Resurrection Dreams" has some gut-churning moments, as most of Laymon's books do. However, it doesn't have the overt sexual overtones that many of his others (especially the recent publications) do--which means it has more room for plot and character. While not his best, "Resurrection Dreams" shows that Richard Laymon was one of the best contemporary horror authors around. This one is for true horror fans--those who like their novels crisp, bloody, and unpredictable.
The Resurrection Game Mike Watt (2002)

Danal learned who had killed him. . . and what Resurrection, Inc. had in mind for the human race. . .
Risen J. Knight (2004)
Description: Welcome to Anderson. It's pretty quiet here and that's the way we like it. One thing, though. Madge Duffy murdered her husband John last week, or thought she did. She spent the night in jail but then John walked out of the morgue none the worse for wear. And there's a bullet hole in Deputy Haws' shirt that he can't explain. Something's going on in this town of ours. Something that makes your skin crawl and your teeth grind in the night. I don't know what it is, but I'll tell you this: It scares me. One helluva read. Don't start this book unless you've got an evening free! – George Beahm, author of The Stephen King Companion --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
Rise & Walk Gregory Solis (2007)
Description: his cover was intriguing...simple, non-flamboyant. It gave me the impression of something really wrong brewing inside and that was true when I read it, but wrong in a good way, This book takes place primarily in the mountains during a paintball competition when zombies are introduced in the most disturbing way, and two thrill seekers go all out to fight for their lives when this most horrifying book becomes greatly absorbed in it's own guts. The book is a great novel, and terrifying in parts. I'm equally impressed with the author's use of allegories and depth in the characters. It's also changed my mind about entering any competition in the woods any time soon. So to Gregory, my hat is off to you, just tell your zombies to leave my brains alone, and to all you zombie fans, RISE and WALK is incredible. The zombie genre would be missing an arm without it. -- Nathan Curtis, Reviewer, New World Reviews.
